Parkinson’s East Midlands Research Interest Group

Welcome to PEMRIG, the Parkinson’s East Midlands Research Interest Group, for people with Parkinson’s, health professionals and researchers in the region.  As part of Parkinson’s UK, we provide a platform for you to hear about recent developments in Parkinson’s research, express your views and opinions, and debate the implications and prospects.

“Our website is for those affected by Parkinson’s to learn about research, find out about upcoming events and discover how they can support research programmes.”

John Turner, Chair of PEMRIG

PEMRIG and its Steering Group bring together:

  • people with Parkinson’s and carers who want to know more about the condition and how best to live with it, about trials, ongoing research and findings
  • academics, students and clinicians who want to share their work and results with peers and people with Parkinson’s and to involve them in their feasibility studies, trials and research programmes
  • health professionals and other interested people such as speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and pharmacists

In every year since 2011, PEMRIG has organised an annual Research Forum, with presentations from leading researchers in the field and opportunities for discussion. The Research Forum was held online in 2020/21 due to Covid-19. We also hold an online research event in the Spring. Go to our Events page for further details.

PEMRIG is very grateful for funding for the Research Forum from the local branches of Parkinson’s UK, as well as money given in memoriam from some special people from the Derby Branch who had an interest in research.
