(This group was renamed in August 2026 from the original PEMRIG as a result of the expansion of the region to encompass the wider Midlands Area.
The wider Group now covers the counties of Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, Leicestershire, Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Rutland, Shropshire, Staffordshire, Birmingham and Solihull, Herefordshire, Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Black Country,

As part of Parkinson’s UK, we provide a platform for you to hear about recent developments in Parkinson’s research, express your views and opinions, and debate the implications and prospects.

PMRIG and its Steering Group bring together:
- people with Parkinson’s and carers who want to know more about the condition and how best to live with it, about trials, ongoing research and findings
- academics, students and clinicians who want to share their work and results with peers and people with Parkinson’s and to involve them in their feasibility studies, trials and research programmes
- health professionals and other interested people such as speech therapists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and pharmacists
In every year since 2011, PMRIG has organised an annual Research Forum, with presentations from leading researchers in the field and opportunities for discussion.

PMRIG is very grateful for funding for the Research Forum from the local branches of Parkinson’s UK, as well as money given in memoriam from some special people from the Derby Branch who had an interest in research.
